What is GeoThermal?

Ge-o-ther-mal adj., Relating to the internal heat of the earth.

--You probably did not know it, but your backyard could save you hundreds of dollars off of your heating and cooling bills each year. The earth is constantly storing energy it receives from the sun. This energy is stored in the ground below the earth's surface, where it maintains a constant temperature throughout the year without regard to the air temperature outside.

--GeoThermal Heat Pump Systems can harness this unused energy for your benefit. This energy source is environmental friendly, safe, inexpensive, and unlimited which means a more comfortable living environment with a lower cost of ownership to you. There is no noisy, unattractive condensing unit outside of your house and no harmful fumes or flames.

--The system works by circulating water through polyethelene pipes called "loops" that are installed below the earth's surface. These loops can be buried vertically or horizontally in the ground, or submersed in a nearby pond or lake. The loops are connected to an extended-range water source heat pump unit installed in your home. The depth of the loops is determined by the size of unit that is installed to provide the comfort you want.

--When heating the home or hot water, heat is extracted from the earth into the water circulating in the loop. This heat is used by the heat exchanger and compressor in the water source heat pump to warm the air and provide hot water. Air conditioning is provided as the result of reversing the same process and transferring heat from the home and returning it into the earth.

--A water source heat pump is comparable in size of a standard heating and cooling unit.. A complete geothermal system, consisting of the water source heat pump, the loop, and a standard duct system for delivery of hot or cold air, provides all the heating, cooling, and ideally hot water needs for your home in one integrated system.
